Carlton Morris is an author, veteran, and independent thinker whose works confront the origins of biblical gods, organized religion, and inherited belief systems. Drawing from history, scripture, lived experience, and critical reasoning, his books invite readers to step beyond doctrine and confront uncomfortable truths about faith, identity, and control.
Like Jesus, Carlton Morris was born in an inn—a combination boarding house and restaurant. His mother was a waitress, an orphan adopted by the owners of the inn. His father was a whiskey drummer. He came into the world like a child of unwed parents at the beginning of the Great Depression, one of many thousands born into chaos: the Depression, World War II, and single-parent homes. Like countless others, he survived one world only to become cannon fodder for two additional conflicts halfway around the globe.
Carlton served on submarines and destroyers, directed air traffic, and worked as a Navy recruiter. He enlisted in the Navy in September 1950, two months after the start of the Korean War. He celebrated his thirty-seventh birthday with the Green Berets in Vietnam when the 1968 Tet Offensive began. He later served one year as a warden in San Diego, responsible for more than 150 military personnel awaiting court-martial.
Carlton Morris is a proud 2025 winner of the International Impact Book Awards, with “The Left Hand of the Biblical Gods” recognized in the Religion: Spiritual Insights category and “Random Thoughts of an Old Man in a Rocking Chair” honored in the Autobiography: Personal Journey category. As part of this global program celebrating powerful storytelling, he presents two works that invite reflection, spark conversation, and inspire deeper inquiry.
This book is a quick summary of a family’s survival of the trials and hardships of the Great Depression. It is a look at one boy’s unique World War II experience, his Korean and Vietnam military background. In 1951, he had a loss of faith, which did not return until 1988 when he received what can only be called biblical revelation that he could never have imagined or anticipated. His renewed faith created Random Thoughts of an Old Man in a Rocking Chair that became a collection of the successes, failures, observations, and homespun philosophy that gave meaning to both his successes and failures from a religious perspective, a perspective that made his life the marvelous adventure it has been. He is truly an individual who can say, “I have been there and done that.”
